We think buying a book should mean owning it, the way it always has. Ownbound brings the property rights of a paperback to digital reading, so a book you buy is yours to keep, lend, and pass on.
Why we exist
For most of history, buying a book was simple: it was yours. You could shelve it, lend it, give it away, or sell it second-hand. Digital reading quietly took that away. What looks like a purchase is really a revocable licence to view, inside one company's walls. You cannot lend freely, you cannot resell, and if a store removes a title or closes an account, the library can simply vanish.
Ownbound puts that right. By recording ownership on a public ledger and releasing a book only to its current holder, we recreate the natural physics of a paperback: one copy, one reader at a time, freely lent and freely passed on, and genuinely owned. Not a different way to rent books, but a fairer model for owning them.

What we believe
Control and permanence belong to the reader, not the store. A purchase should outlive any single company, including ours.
Lending a book to a friend is one of reading's small joys. We wanted to keep that, not engineer it away.
Creators should earn well on the first sale and keep earning as books circulate. A healthy second-hand market can pay authors, not bypass them.

Where we are
The core is built and working. We are in early access on a public test network while our first author pilot runs, so it is free to try and your feedback shapes what ships.
